Midland and Tay Township are served by Newmarket-Tay Power Distribution, which is headquartered in Newmarket and keeps an office here. Anything requiring a service disconnect is booked through them, and it is a different queue from the Hydro One one an hour east in Orillia.
The harbour is the reason for the dock work
Section 78 of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code covers marine wharves, docking facilities, fixed and floating piers and boathouses, and rule 78-050 now requires ground-fault protection on 15 A and 20 A receptacles on the exterior of them. A substantial share of what is installed along this shoreline predates that rule and is still in service.

A cable that was correct in September is often damaged by April. Ice lifts and drags cribs and floating sections through the winter, and the feeder is the least flexible thing bolted to them. Checking a dock feed in spring is an annual conversation here, not an upsell.
Town housing and the pre-war core
The streets climbing away from the harbour hold enough early-twentieth-century housing that fuse panels and two-prong outlets are routine findings. Most of it has been partly updated at some point, which is worse than untouched: the common pattern is modern wiring on the ground floor and original wiring above it, with the join in a place nobody documented.
