A regional electrical contractor, not a town one
Georgian Bay Electric works across Midland, Orillia, Collingwood, Bracebridge, Huntsville and Parry Sound, plus the communities around each of them. That is a wider patch than most electrical contractors here cover, and it is on purpose. The towns are individually small, and the work in them is the same work.
There are good, long-established electricians in every one of these towns, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What we do differently is treat the paperwork and the scheduling as part of the job rather than as something to sort out later. Most of the delay on electrical work around here is not the wiring at all — it is a notification filed late, or a disconnect booked with the wrong utility.
And we would genuinely rather tell you a subpanel solves your problem for a quarter of what a service upgrade costs, and lose the bigger job, than sell you the bigger job. That is easier to say than to do. So the answer you get always includes what we think you should not spend money on.

The notification is filed before the work starts, not after
Electrical work in Ontario is notified to the ESA, and that notification belongs at the start of a job rather than at the end of it. Filed first, the inspection is simply part of the schedule. Filed afterwards, or not at all, it becomes something you find out about when the house is being sold, which is the worst possible moment to learn it.

A load calculation before any charger, heat pump or hot tub
The question is never whether the panel has a spare space. It is whether the service can carry the new load alongside everything already on it. That is a calculation, not a look at the panel door, and it decides whether you need a service upgrade or just a breaker. We do it before quoting, so the price does not move afterwards.

Classes of credential, never invented licence numbers
Every electrical contractor in Ontario sits on a public register, so a licence number on a website is a checkable claim about a real person. Those numbers get copied between sites and end up pointing at somebody else's business. We name the class of credential the work requires, and you verify it at the source rather than take a number on trust.

Bad news goes to you, not into a pitch
If we open a panel and find aluminium branch wiring, or a bus bar that has been running hot, you hear exactly that regardless of what you decide next. An older house is usually being assessed for insurance or for a sale at the same time, and knowing what is actually in the panel matters in both of those conversations.
Talk to a Midland electrical contractor

That is usually enough to say whether you are looking at an afternoon, a scheduled job, or a conversation with your distributor first. Often enough to price it, too, without anybody driving anywhere.
