EPCOR replaced the municipal utility
The local distribution company here was Collus, then Collus PowerStream, and is now EPCOR, which distributes to Collingwood, Stayner, Creemore and Thornbury. That is one utility covering four communities in two counties, which makes scheduling across this part of the service area simpler than it is further east.
The old grid: remedial work
The blocks between Hurontario and the harbour date from the shipbuilding era. Sixty-amp services, fuse panels, ungrounded branch circuits and knob-and-tube in the oldest of it. Almost all of these jobs arrive through an insurer or a purchase agreement rather than through the owner deciding to spend money.
The new edge: additive work
The subdivisions south and west of the town went up with 100 A or 200 A services and modern wiring. Their electrical work is car chargers, hot tubs, finished basements and outdoor kitchens — planned rather than forced, and quoted on the length of the run rather than on what has to be undone first.
The chalet stock is a third case
Properties on the slopes toward the escarpment are frequently seasonal, frequently rented out, and frequently carry a hot tub, electric heat and a snowmelt cable on a service that was sized for none of it. Load calculation before anything else on those.
