Gravenhurst sits at the southern entrance to Muskoka on Lake Muskoka, and it carries the district’s lakefront electrical work with one important administrative difference.
Elexicon, not Lakeland
Bracebridge and Huntsville are Lakeland Power. Gravenhurst is Elexicon Energy, the utility formed from Veridian and Whitby Hydro. It is twenty minutes down Highway 11 from Bracebridge and it is a different distributor with a different queue, which is exactly the kind of thing a page written for all of Muskoka gets wrong.
Lakefront work without quite the same rock
The shoreline work here is the same as the rest of the district — Section 78 governs docks, piers and boathouses, and rule 78-050 requires ground-fault protection on exterior 15 A and 20 A receptacles at them. What differs slightly is the ground: the southern edge of the district has more soil over the rock than Bracebridge or Parry Sound, so a grounding electrode is less often the thing that decides the price.
Steamship-era housing in the town core
The town centre carries housing from the period when this was the transfer point for the Muskoka lakes steamers, which puts it in the same age bracket as the pre-war cores in Orillia and Midland. Fuse panels, 60 A services and ungrounded circuits are routine findings, and they surface at a sale or at renewal rather than because anybody went looking.
